Upper Valley JVS
COURSE INFORMATION FOR THE UPPER VALLEY JOINT VOCATIONAL SCHOOL
Listed below is information which will be important to any student who is considering going to the Upper Valley Joint Vocational School (UVJVS) in Piqua during his/her junior and senior year.
Any student who will be 16 years of age or older who is enrolled in any of the 14 home schools in the JVS District can take any one of the 30 vocational programs offered at UVJVS. If the student has attended high school for 2 years and has earned at least 7 credits with at least one each in science, math and language arts, he/she will be considered eligible to enroll.
Students who are planning to attend the J.V.S. should have earned at least 10 credits at Sidney High School by the end of their second year as noted below:
Eng 9 & Eng 10 2 credits Science 2 credits Physical Eduction ½ credit Math 2 credits Health ½ credit Electives 1 ½ credits Social Studies ½ credits
It is recommended that students with less than 10 credits work closely with their SHS Counselor and UVJVS Counselor in order to schedule make-up course work in a timely fashion. The UVJVS classifies as:
· "ON TRACK" - sophomores who are "on track" for graduation in terms of course and credit requirements. "On-track" means you have passed (or are currently passing) courses required for graduation, and, have passed (or are passing) enough electives to meet the total number of credits (21) required to graduate. These students are eligible to enroll at the JVS.
· "DEFICIENT" - Sophomores who are "not on-track" are still eligible to enroll in a JVS program, IF AT LEAST 1/4 OF THE TOTAL NUMBER OF CREDITS REQUIRED TO GRADUATE HAVE BEEN PASSED (or are being passed)....at SHS. That means a student must have at least 5 credits to be eligible to enroll at the JVS with a plan for making up lost credits.
In most instances "the credit deficiency" amounts to only one or two credits. In such cases, credit deficiencies can be made up locally in summer school, through correspondence, or at the JVS in the After School Credit Class (2 afternoons per week from 3 to 5 P.M. for a semester, to earn 1/2 credit).
· "NOT ELIGIBLE" - Students who do not, or cannot earn the necessary 1/4 of the total number of credits required to graduate ARE NOT ELIGIBLE TO ENROLL FOR THE FIRST YEAR OF A TWO YEAR JUNIOR-SENIOR PROGRAM.
