Your Educational Plan

A solid Educational Plan is the foundation for a student’s educational future.  Setting goals and having a plan for the future should be an integral part of the course selection process.  Sidney High School has a broad variety of offerings in the curriculum, providing opportunities for all students regardless of interest, ability or academic history.

The Educational Plan should be based upon a student’s academic strengths, personal interests, and career goals.  At Sidney High School, we believe this process and the choices made may be the most important in a student’s high school experience.

The faculty and staff of Sidney High School strive to make each educational experience positive and focused on each student’s strengths.  The guidance staff, administration and teaching staff will also assist students in developing a sound Educational Plan by looking at interest surveys, achievement scores and career inventories.

We ask all parents/guardians to join us in helping our students develop an Educational Plan with the future and career goals in mind.

THINGS TO CONSIDER BEFORE SELECTING CLASSES

1.         Thoroughly review all the courses available at Sidney High School as presented in

            this document.

2.         Determine the courses needed to meet the high school graduation requirements.

3.         Identify the courses necessary for the career and college of choice.

4.         Discuss with your counselor such things as past achievements, personal interests,

            personal ability, and, most importantly, relevance to your lifestyle and career

            choices.

5.         Consider the recommendations made by school staff, the requirements in the

            program guidelines,  the appropriate level of rigor, and the course description.

6.         Review and study this booklet so you will know the courses.  If you have questions

            about courses or course sequence and cannot find the answer in the following

            pages, please ask.  Teachers and counselors are available to answer questions and

            help you plan.

7.         Be realistic about your abilities and achievement levels to do the work necessary for

            success.
